‘But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whore-mongers, and
sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the take which burneth with fire and
brimstone: which is the second death" (Revelation 21:8)
The great catalogue of man’s sin lies open before us, that solemn list of crimes against God that
will damn the soul of the guilty. God shall definitely judge liars, idolaters, and sorcerers. God will
judge the abominable, the murderers and those who sell body and soul.
But what of unbelief? Surely the simple act of not believing cannot be compared to these other
serious crimes. Is unbelief a light sin or is it the most hideous father of them all? This question is
answered by understanding that unbelief in all its forms is the chief work of the Devil, the
masterpiece of Satan.
Unbelief is seen in the person who says, "I believe in God and in Jesus" yet this belief is nothing
more than a head knowledge and has never penetrated into the heart and soul to change the
life. On the other hand the true colours of this sin are seen in those blaspheming God and madly
denying His existence.
Atheism and infidelity are the ripe fruits of this corrupt tree. It is here that unbelief lays aside all
disguise and stalks the earth as the giant Goliath roaring "No God! No God!", with a fist clenched
toward heaven in blazing arrogance. Unbelief has sharpened the knife of many suicide victims
when it cries "If there is a God why am I living in this hell on earth?"
Yet no matter what form this unbelief takes the final result of eternal damnation is the same. Don’
t be deceived; God will not be mocked, for whatever a man sows, that will he also reap. The Bible
states that at the Judgment Day every created being whether in heaven, on earth, or under the
earth, will bow in submission before Jesus Christ, and every tongue shall confess that He is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
You must realise that your life hangs by a thin thread over the jaws of a burning hell. Choosing
not to believe in Christ Jesus as your Saviour is therefore the most devastating decision you will
ever make. In rejecting the Son of God you cast away all hope of eternal life.
My friend, if anything could break your heart of stone it would be a glimpse of the cross of
Calvary where Jesus suffered the most agonizing death to save sinners like you and me.
If you were to look through your mind’s eye and behold Jesus Christ hanging on the cross, and
see the Blood of God that poured out from His body, you would see how much He loved you.
Yes, there is an escape from the curse of sin. The Lord has made a bridge that crosses that
once impassable chasm which separates you from God. Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord
of lords, is the only answer.
Turn to Him, repent of your sins and "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved."
Again, "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Jesus Himself said, "I
am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me." John 14:6.
